First Impressions
Olio is one of the name brands I always saw people with access to West Coast cannabis in Colorado, I was jealous of the quality of the product that they were dabbing on. I finally took a ski trip out there and I was able to try some of their rosin which I still remember being fire years later. Since then, I haven’t run into any products from Olio until today when I went into New York recreational dispensary, The Flowery and I was excited to see this awesomely Psychedelic Olio packaging!
Genetics and Terpenes
The Purple Marmalade strain is a result of crossing Tropicana Cookies and Why U Gelly that is sativa leaning 60/40. The dominant terpenes are beta-caryophyllene and humulene and this batch is 5.5% terpenes in total.
Looks and Hardware
The rosin is a darker amber color but that to be expected when you are dealing with outdoor grown cannabis. The trichome heads become more resinous and fatty adding a darker color to the extract. I’m not sure what hardware is used but I do like seeing the big holes in the atomizer.
Taste
I get strong similarities to Gelonade when I take some hits of this. The live rosin is smooth and flavorful, mainly consisting of sweeter citrus flavors without too much sourness.
Effects
I appreciated the balance Purple Marmalade offered. It wasn’t too sedative, so I could still engage in conversations and activities without feeling overly sluggish. It didn’t cloud my mind; in fact, I felt sharp and mentally aware the entire time but it provided a calm, serene experience that made it easy to let go of stress and simply enjoy the moment.
Final Thoughts
I still think there's a place for distillate carts in 2024, they are cheap and can get the job done, but they don't offer the same experience that a solventless cartridge will provide to the end user. With a live rosin vape the flavors are stronger and more authentic while the effects hit harder and are truer to the profile of the flower. Grab a Purple Marmalade Olio pen since its got the Certified Stoner stamp of approval from me!
